If you've been keeping up with the dieting world, you've probably heard of acai berries. They supposedly have amazing properties and can help with a number of health issues. However, many people think acai berries are too good to be true. Are their any downsides to this "miracle" fruit? Well, there are a few.
Fresh Berries Are Hard to Come By
The best way to get the benefits from acai berries is to eat them fresh. However, fresh berries lose their potency fairly quickly after being picked, so it's hard to get fresh berries anywhere outside of the Amazon. Frozen berries and dried berries are nearly as beneficial, but they may not taste as good. Acai berry extract, the main ingredient in acai berry powders and pills, also isn’t as potent as fresh berries.
There's No Guarantee Acai Berries Help with Weight Loss
While many acai berry products claim to promote fast weight loss, there's no real proof that they actually do. Yes, studies have shown that they can help increase a person's metabolism, but even that doesn't necessarily translate into weight loss. Likewise, many of the benefits that acai berry products claim to give have not been medically proven.
Acai Berry Products Are Expensive
You'll spend a good $50 or more on a bottle of acai berry pills and just as much on liquid supplements and frozen berries. With no guarantee that these products even work, that's a lot of money to spend per month. You could apply that money to a weight loss program that has proven results or to a gym membership instead of spending in on something that might not even do anything.
